Emily is showing loads of spirit

Jockey Greg Cheyne is staring down a 45-day suspension for not riding a horse out to the finish, but he is still demonstrating his skill as a top jockey when given the opportunities.

That he certainly gets from trainer Alan Greeff in Port Elizabeth, and he looks set to add a few more winners to his tally at Fairview on Friday when they race on the Polytrack.

He can get going as early as Race 1, a Maiden Juvenile Plate for fillies, where he rides Emily's Spirit for the Greeff yard.

This Rafeef filly has been runner-up in four of her five starts with her one bad run being behind classy Chere For Me.

Probably her best run was over the course and distance of this race when second behind Easy Living at the end of April.

Emily's Spirit followed that up with a decent run last time behind Rainbow Thief as that form has already been franked by stable companion Double Destiny, who ran out a decent winner last week.

Greeff needs some good meetings to close the gap on Gavin Smith for the Eastern Cape trainers’ title and in Race 2, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1600m, Wildest Dreams, another ride for Cheyne, could also finally crack the ice.

This Dynasty filly was expected to win her maiden earlier this season but has disappointed her followers more than once. But she is in good heart and could be ready to strike.

Her last three races have been over 1900m and perhaps the drop in distance could work to her advantage.

Another strong contender for Greeff and Cheyne comes up in Race 7, a Pinnace Stakes over 1000m, where Inherit The Rain could get back in to the winner’s enclosure.
