Embesto can make the leap to Group Three glory in the Tattersalls Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury.
Roger Varian’s charge did not race as a juvenile but he made an immediate impact on his racecourse debut at Yarmouth in May, powering home by six lengths in a race that may only have been moderate but nevertheless has produced two subsequent winners.
Embesto then headed for a Doncaster novice contest where his length-and-a-half verdict does not really do him justice as he had plenty to do from the wrong side of the track, yet still prevailed in decent style.
Again the form has not worked out brilliantly, but Embesto marked himself a horse of real potential when chasing home the well-regarded Nostrum in a Newmarket Listed heat, beaten three lengths with two lengths back to the third.
Nostrum narrowly failed at Group Three level at Goodwood, but Embesto’s assignment here does not look as competitive as the Thoroughbred Stakes did, while his three-year-old allowance puts him firmly in the mix with plenty seemingly still to come.
Truthful was found out at Listed level, but her mark of 90 makes her a leading player in the British EBF Premier Fillies’ Handicap.
Winner of her first two starts in novice company, William Haggas felt the Aphrodite Stakes at Newmarket was a logical step for a filly who was on the up and she was sent off a 4-1 chance on the July course.
Truthful took her usual keen hold that day and was just left behind in the finish, coming home sixth and beaten over 10 lengths.
Conditions may have been slightly easier than ideal that day, so any quickening of the Salisbury ground would be a plus and the trip is certainly no issue.
Go Big Or Go Home is one to watch as she starts her career in the EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes at Beverley.
As a Lope De Vega half-sister to Battaash, her pedigree puts her on the immediate short list for Bryan Smart over five furlongs.
At the other end of the scale, Trooper Bisdee tackles two miles in the Churchill Tyres Handicap on the Westwood.
A winner over a mile and six furlongs on his penultimate run, dropping back to 12 furlongs last time out on soft ground resulted in a heavy defeat in third.
His profile is a bit patchy now, but Sir Mark Prescott’s runners are usually worth a second look stepped up in distance.
Star Harbour can make it a Racing League double at Windsor.
Ado McGuinness’ Irish raider landed a decent pot at Chepstow last week and he turns out in the £100,000 featured William Hill Epic Boost Racing League Race 21 Handicap this time.
