Early betting for Classic Day

February 2023

Jack Milner

Both the first and second placed runners in Leg 1 of the World Sports Betting Triple Crown and Wilgerbosdrift Triple Tiara have been priced up as favourite and second favourite in their respective second leg, the R1.5-million World Sports Betting SA Classic and R1.25-million Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic.

Both Grade 1 races, over 1800m, will be run on the Standside track at Turffontein on Saturday 4 March.

The World Sports Betting Gauteng Guineas was won by Eye Of The Prophet, who beat Royal Victory by a short head, while the Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas went the way of Lady Of Power who held off Feather Boa by 0.25 lengths.

However, in both cases it is the runner-up who has been placed at the top of the boards for Leg 2 with Feather Boa at 28-10 and Lady Of Power at 5-1, while Royal Victory is at 4-1 for the SA Classic with Eye Of The Prophet joint second favourite with Billy Bowlegs at 6-1.

Next best are the Mike de Kock pair of Shoemaker and East Coast.

Reny, a fast finishing third in the Fillies Guineas and None Other, who did not run in that race, are next best in the betting for the Fillies Classic at 7-1.

Supplementary entries close at 9am on Monday 27 February with declarations by 11am on Tuesday 28 February.
