Jack Milner: Blue Duchess is another runner to have found a new life after being introduced to the Polytrack at Fairview.
She had three reasonable runs in the Western Cape but then moved to Gavin Smith’s Port Elizabeth yard and the change has been remarkable, which has been even better with the fitting of blinkers.
She did win her debut run, a Maiden Plate over 1200m on the turf, but she did not fare all that well in her second and third starts, also on the turf.
Smith then put her on the Polytrack and that brought the best out of the Duke Of Marmalade filly.
She went on to notch up three successive victories on the surface, in her last start beating talented Bloom by 0.50 lengths. Those three were all over 1300m on the Polytrack but on Monday she will be going 100m further when she lines up in Race 7, a MR 91 Handicap for fillies and mares.
This will be a tough test for her as she will meet some tough opposition in the form of Duchess Of Bourbon and Tawny Jet.
Marco van Rensburg rode her last time as is back on board this time.
