Trainer Vaughan Marshall might have a slight lump in his throat as he watches One Stripe in action at Woodbine in Canada on Saturday. The now four-year-old was one of the stars of his stables and arguably one of the best horses he has ever trained.
Nevertheless, he might get some compensation at Hollywoodbets Durbanville when he sends out Dreamworld in Race 7, a Class 3 Handicap over 1250m.
Also a son of One World, this three-year-old colt has raced four times for two wins, a second place and one unplaced run.
That last run came in the Grade 3 Langerman over 1500m for which he was sent off favourite. However, he appeared to find the trip a touch too far and back to a sprint distance he looks hard to beat and stands out as the best bet on the card.
Sean Veale takes the ride.
A Middle Stakes over 1000m heads up the card and it looks quite an interesting contest. Lucinda Woodruff-trained Dean Street is back in top form and has to be a huge runner, especially with the benefit of No 1 draw.
However, Justin Snaith-trained Un Bel Di could be the runner to beat. The four-year-old Querari gelding did not have the best of time racing at Hollywoodbets Scottsville during the winter but he will enjoy the return to the Western Cape.
He won’t be the first horse who took time to find his feet at Scottsville but after a poor first run, he did run a promising second behind Luhamba Phambili. Strangely enough, he received a 2.5kg penalty for that second-placed run.
This will be his first run back and his first run at Durbanville as well. However, he could enjoy racing at this course around the turn and is well enough drawn in gate No 3.
He has a good record over 1000m and in fact, has a record of two wins and five places from seven starts over 1000m.
He will be carrying 61.5kg and will have the advantage of Craig Zackey, who is carrying on where he left off last season and is riding at the top of his game, taking the ride on Un Bel Di for the first time.
