Double for De Melo, Crawford

October 2022

Jack Milner

There might only be a seven-race card at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Wednesday but there is nothing dull about this meeting.

It kicks off with a bang with a Middle Stakes for fillies and mares over 1600m and it sees Fleeting and Peut Etre Moi clash for the fifth time.

At this stage the honours are level at 2-2, but in all cases there has been very little between them. The last time they met was on 7 September over this course and distance and it was Justin Snaith-trained Peut Etre Moi who got the nod. Both were coming back from a layoff and they finished third and fourth respectively behind Jasmine.

Just 1.25 lengths separated them but Brett Crawford’s charge comes into this event with a 4kg weight advantage so that has to favour Fleeting. The Querari filly has also had a subsequent run so will come into this race fully fit and with Keagan de Melo in the irons is the runner to beat.

Peut Etre Moi will come on from that last run and does run well at Durbanville but Richard Fourie will have quite a fight on his hands at the weights.

Crawford and De Melo could also be on the mark in the final race on the card, a Middle Stakes over 1400m, with Silvano's Dasher.

This son of Silvano had a big reputation ahead of his debut win but two disappointing outings followed which prompted connections to have him gelded. On the evidence of his comeback run four weeks back, that decision seems to have had the desired effect.

Silvano's Dasher reappeared over 1250m at this course where he produced a smart turn of foot to win going away.

A six-point penalty will demand more of him, but is unlikely to prevent Silvano's Dasher from following up.
