Donovann Dillon the man to follow

April 2022

Jack Milner

Donovan Dillon has picked up some excellent rides at Hollywoodbets Greyville today and could be in for one of the best days of his career.

His best could be Spy Master in Race 3, a Maiden Plate over 1600m on the Polytrack. He has only run twice and came on in leaps and bounds in his second start.

In fact, if this Peter Muscutt-trained colt did not have to overcome his wide barrier he might have won. Boosting those runs is the fact the winner of his debut race, Imilenzeyokududuma, has gone on to claim a strong race and has moved on to bigger things, while Khanyisa Indlela, a horse that finished behind him last time, won in good style recently.

Spy Master will be a popular banker and as this is a particularly tricky card one could also look at Sting Ray in Race 6, a FM 74 Handicap over 1000m, as another.

Glen Kotzen’s charge has improved since fitted with blinkers and has won both her races over this trip with them on. Dillon rode her to victory over this course and distance last time and from No 1 draw could well repeat that effort.

Dillon’s ride in Race 8, Winter’s Destiny looks another decent contender for this underrated jockey. After winning her maiden in style most expected her to follow up on her handicap debut, but she had to overcome the widest gate, showed greenness by hanging towards her rivals and allowed seasoned Polytrack racer Flower Season to get the verdict.

She meets similar in a lowly FM 65 Handicap over 1400m and even though a banker in the last race seems dangerous, she may be all that you need.

Dillon’s ride in Race 5, Querari’s Cowboy, could supply some value for punters.
