Jack Milner: Punters face a competitive card at the Vaal on Tuesday but as has been the case over the past few weeks, trainer Mike de Kock could maybe provide the banker.
Not maybe, definitely!
Definitely Maybe has only run twice, finishing third over 1200m on debut and then winning at the second time of asking, this time over 1600m. Both runs were on the Vaal Classic track so took place around the turn.
When she lines up in Race 7 in a MR 72 Handicap for fillies and mares, it will also be over 1600m but this time it will be run up the Vaal straight. That could prove to be in her favour as she has drawn No 12 which would have had a negative effect on her chances if racing around the bend.
This daughter of Silvano obviously shows quite a bit at home as she was sent out 5-10 on debut, but although running on strongly and producing the fastest time over the final 400m, she was still 1.40 lengths shy at the line.
She also was reported to be making a respiratory noise, but the veterinarian found nothing wrong.
Definitely Maybe then went off an odds-on favourite in her next start over 1600m and although she was pressed in the middle stages of the race, there was a lot to like about the manner in which she drew off to win comfortably in the end.
She can only improve on that performance and looks ready to add another victory to her tally in her handicap debut.
She carries just 55.5kg and will be ridden once again by Gavin Lerena.
Her biggest threat could come for Corne Spies-trained Eastern Belle. This Global View filly has some good form and has been consistent, but tries 1600m for the first time.
