Crystal can shine in Nottingham feature

May 2023

Crystal Caprice could prove be the jewel in the pack as the fillies take centre stage in the British EBF Nottinghamshire Oaks Stakes on Tuesday at Nottingham.

Sir Michael Stoute has won this Listed event twice in the last three years and the Freemason Lodge trainer looks to have found the ideal candidate to enhance his stellar race record.

The daughter of Frankel rose quickly through the ranks last season, opening her account at Yarmouth before adding competitive handicaps at both Goodwood and Ascot.

That earned her a crack at the Listed Rosemary Stakes where she was a more than creditable third, beaten less than two lengths, while a line can be put through her final start of the season where she was pulled up sharply having lost her action.

She is yet to tackle 10 furlongs, but considering her dam Crystal Zvezda was a Listed winner at the distance and the dam herself is a half-sister to the top-class middle-distance operators Crystal Ocean and Hillstar, there is plenty to suggest a mile and a quarter should be within her compass.

There could be some high-class operators on show at Newcastle where Covey can continue climbing the ladder in the At The Races App Expert Tips Novice Stakes.

A neck second to Greenham fourth Zoology at Southwell on debut, Covey built on that experience to get off the mark in fine style at Newmarket during the Craven meeting - making virtually all in the hands of Frankie Dettori to register a four-length success.

The son of Frankel looks a Pattern-class performer in waiting and is impossible to oppose as he bids to double his tally in the north east.

Laser Guided was doing his best work late on when second over a mile here at Gosforth Park last time and the winner of that race gave the form a useful look when scoring again at Southwell next time.

The step up to 10 furlongs should suit Simon and Ed Crisford's son of Kingman in the Follow @attheraces On Twitter Maiden Stakes, with the 400,000 guineas yearling out of a half-sister to Derby and Arc hero Golden Horn.

There could be Coronation fever at Wolverhampton if the King's Reminder can score in the Follow @attheraces On Twitter Maiden Fillies' Stakes.

The Andrew Balding-trained debutant is a regally-bred daughter of Dubawi out of Royal Ascot winner Memory and looks to have the right profile to shine over this six-furlong distance.

Brighton's big race of the day is the British EBF Ruby Jubilee Fillies' Handicap and Rich could be the one to scoop the title stepping up to 10 furlongs.

Richard Hannon's daughter of Cracksman has been highly tried since a winning debut at Newbury, finishing seventh in the Rockfel Stakes on her second start before running with credit when third in a hot Kempton conditions race on her reappearance.

She didn't have the best luck in running during that mile contest, which was won by a filly set to line up in the Qipco 1000 Guineas in Running Lion, and Rich's best could yet to be seen as she enters the handicap ranks. - Press Association
