Jack Milner: There are times when bettors have to rely on the instincts of trainers as to the ability of their horses with regard to the field in which they participate and the distances over which they run.
That looks to be the case at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Monday when Crimson Causeway lines up in Race 5 in a Conditional Graduation over 1600m on the Polytrack.
This three-year-old filly has been competitive in strong company but has not raced beyond 1200m. She is by Gimmerthegreenlight out of a Giant’s Causeway mare so on breeding she should stay 1600m and clearly trainer Gavin van Zyl has confidence she will do the distance.
She certainly will have no issue with the Polytrack as her lone win was by 6.20 lengths on the surface. She is also the best handicapped runner by at least 6kg so if she does see it out,
Crimson Causeway stands out as a banker in all bets.
Warren Kennedy takes the ride.
