East Cape champion trainer Alan Greeff will be aiming for a third consecutive win in Friday’s Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery.
This R150 000 race for two-year-old fillies over 1200m will be the feature (race 7 of 8 at 16:10) at a good-looking meeting on the Fairview Turf track.
Greeff won this race last year with Splicethemainbrace, and in 2023 with Luna Halo.
It looks a rather open affair this time but Greeff has a good chance of making it three in a row with Anotherdanceforme.
The speedy Master Of My Fate filly is a winner of both her career starts to date. She should appreciate the step up in distance and could stay unbeaten with champion jockey Richard Fourie in the saddle.
Music Of The Night, trained by national champion Justin Snaith, is making the trip from Cape Town and must be respected.
She is improving all the time and won her last race very well. Muzi Yeni will be ready for a good effort from the saddle.
Bonjour La Ville (Kelly Mitchley), Instaworthy (Gavin Smith) and even Silva City (Greeff) are all capable of enough improvement to win this race.
Punters will be keen to follow the Greeff-Fourie combination who looks ready for another solid outing on Friday.
The Greeff stable is enjoying a formidable season and it could turn out to be a record season.
Greeff has already saddled 105 winners at Fairview (and one in Cape Town) this season.
At this rate, his own East Cape record for the most winners in a season, 176 winners in 2019, is in danger.
Although the spotlight will be on the two-year-old fillies, there are many other interesting races to look forward to on Friday.
The first race at 12:35 is the Work Riders Maiden Plate which is a huge crowd favourite.
It is always an exciting event when the amateur riders get a chance to show off their skills at Fairview. This race is also the start of the Bipot.
The Place Accumulator starts with the second race, a Maiden Juvenile Plate, at 13:10.
Pick Six players get involved from race three at 13:45. The first leg is the Oaks Plate for three-year-old fillies over 1800 which should be an exciting affair.
There is also a strong Pinnacle Stakes (race 6) to look forward to and we close with a Classified Stakes (race 8 at 16:45).
Looking at Friday’s action, and what is still to come, one can see why March is regarded as one of the best months for racing at Fairview.
We return next Friday with the East Cape Horse Care Unit Race Day for more quality racing.
The Listed Sprint Cup and the Listed East Cape Guineas will be the main attractions.
As always, let’s give it a go!
