Coto De Caza looks a Beverley Banker

September 2025

Coto De Caza can make the most of a drop in class in the Eddie And Violet Smith Conditions Stakes at Beverley on Tuesday.

Simon and Ed Crisford's filly showed some very decent form as a juvenile but has only been seen once so far this term.

At two she won the valuable Alice Keppel Conditions Stakes at Glorious Goodwood and was then favourite for a Listed race up at Ayr, in which she was beaten just a length into third.

After that though she took a big step forward when winning the Cornwallis Stakes at Newmarket, a Group Three against the colts, which was an excellent way to end her first season.

She made her comeback at Sandown in Listed company in June under a penalty but failed to get involved and while that might have raised questions about whether she had trained on or not, the fact she is coming out so late in the season suggests that is not a concern to her connections.

Favoured by the conditions of this slightly easier assignment, having already won over this course and distance on soft ground, she should be tough to beat.

Gemma Tutty's One Night Thunder must have solid claims of completing his hat-trick in the Fango Handicap.

When with Richard Hannon he was briefly rated in the mid-90s before changing hands for what now looks a paltry £15,000.

It took him a while to settle into his new surroundings but having fallen to a mark of 70, he finished third at Haydock in early August which signalled a return to form.

Sent off favourite at Carlisle next time out, he fairly bolted up, and he followed up under a 5lb penalty at the same track a fortnight ago.

He is another 5lb higher again for this assignment, but a horse in form at this stage of the season is worth a lot.

Ralph Beckett's Master Vintner can defy a penalty in the opening Sky Sports Racing Virgin 519 Novice Stakes at Lingfield.

Third behind recent St Leger hero Scandinavia on his sole start in Ireland for Andy Oliver in the spring, the lightly-raced three-year-old overcame a 108-day break to make a successful start for his new connections at Goodwood three weeks ago, staying on strongly in heavy ground over 2000m.

It is no surprise, therefore, that Beckett steps him up to 2400m on Lingfield's turning all-weather track and he could prove a different class to his rivals.

Sir Mark Prescott's Aleen looks interesting at Southwell in the Join Southwell Golf Club Nursery Handicap.

The Study Of Man filly, owned and bred by Kirsten Rausing, has shown up well in three maidens and looks ready for this step up to 1600m.

She enters the handicap sphere off a fairly lowly mark of 71 and it would be no surprise to see her prove much better than that in the fullness of time. - Press Association
