Conditions favour Cliff Top

The withdrawal of Jusin Snaith-trained Silver Falcon from the Betway Insurebet Cradock Place Stakes over 1200m at Fairview on Friday has paved the way for Cliff Top to get back into the winner’s enclosure.

The Canford Cliffs gelding is one of the most consistent runners in the Eastern Cape and in his last eight runs has notched up three wins, three seconds and two thirds.

This move to the Polytrack should not play too bigger part in the outcome as he has run well on the surface and as the best weighted runner in this line-up,looks to be a decent banker on a very difficult card.

He was narrowly beaten in his last two starts both on the Polytrack over 1000m and 1200m respectively but with Richard Fourie in devastating form and this being Cliff Top’s third run after a layoff, Alan Greeff’s charge looks to have everything in his favour.

Greeff and Snaith are expected to go head-to-head in Race 6, a Racehorse Owners Association Plate for three-year-olds 1400m. Fairy Knight and Underworld squared up in the Champions Juvenile Cup in July and the pair finished second and third respectively behind Questor over this course and distance.

There was only a head between them but as Snaith-trained Underworld has drawn at pole position this time, he is selected to reverse the positions this time.
