Enjoy top racing locally and around the world with the R1-million Allied Steelrode Onamission Charity Mile at Turffontein heading up a weekend which sees the return of See It Again at Hollywoodbets Greyville and the running of the Grade 3 Cape Classic at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Sunday.
A R1-million carryover will kick off the Turffontein Pick 6 pool which is likely to reach a huge R5 million.
There is also South African interest in Britain’s final Group 1 race of the flat season as the familiar Drakenstein blue and white colours will be carried aboard John and Thady Gosden-trained God's Window at Doncaster on Saturday.
TIPSTERS DO BATTLE ON CHARITY MILE DAY
Racing Tipsters will also be competing in their own Daily Punter Competition and bettors will be able to follow all their tips on www.TAB4Racing.com.
But note that these tips will be revised throughout the day so keep following their suggested updates on the Tipping Page as the race meeting evolves.
Tipsters will be following the same rules as stipulated in the Daily Punter Competition
DONATE TO THE SELECTED CHARITIES
There are 21 charities represented at the Allied Steelrode Onamission Charity Mile and the public is also invited to make a donation to any of these worthy causes.
There is a “Donation” option on www.TAB4Racing.com, where one can donate to any of the 21 charities that have been preselected.
This can all be done by clicking on the “Donation” option in the menu (three parallel red lines in top right-hand corner) of the home page.
BALLYDOYLE, GODOLPHIN STAR COLTS CLASH
The meeting at Ascot last week is always thought of as the end of Britain's flat season but it’s not over just yet. The Kameko Futurity Trophy (Race 2) at Doncaster this weekend is the final Group 1 of the year and in unbeaten Diego Velazquez and supplemented Ancient Wisdom, we have on Saturday an old-school duel between Coolmore and Godolphin.
There is, however, also significant South African interest, as the Gosden-trained debut winner God's Window carries the familiar blue and white silks of Drakenstein Stud, whose supremo Gaynor Rupert is a director at Caynor Park Stud which owns and bred this exciting Dubawi colt.
The Listed William Hill Prospect Stakes (Race 3) is the supporting feature on that eight-race card, while the seven-event meeting at Newbury the same day features a pair of Group 3 races as well as a Listed contest.
SALUTE 'SUPER' AS HE ROARS TO MERLION SUCCESS
Saturday's feast of racing also includes a mixed turf and dirt fixture from Singapore with the 12-race card at Kranji highlighted by the running of the 1200m (Polytrack) Group 3 Merlion Trophy from which Super Salute is good value to emerge with the spoils.
He was on a seven-start winning streak before having that run of victories halted when finishing second in the Grade 2 Stewards’ Cup five starts back. He has, albeit without success, acquitted himself admirably since that outing, maintaining a good level of form and consistency including a hugely commendable third-place finish in the Group 1 Singapore Derby.
He is the highest-rated runner in the lineup and is ideally placed under the weight-for-age conditions, so this represents an ideal opportunity to resume winning ways in Race 10.
WINNERS FLOWING FOR FOWNES AND FERRARIS
Trainer Mark Newnham and SA jockey Luke Ferraris have struck up a good relationship with a double at Happy Valley on Wednesday.
Ferraris is likely to continue his winning form aboard consistent Caspar Fownes-trained Royal Pride in Race 8 over 1800m. South Africa's former Champion Apprentice has already won on this six-year-old Medaglia D'Oro gelding.
