Charity Mile: Melech out, Zinovi in

October 2024

Jack Milner

There has been one scratching so far from Saturday’s R1-million Allied Steelrode Onamission Charity Mile over 1600m on the Standside track at Turffontein.

Roy Magner withdrew his charge on Monday as he is suffering from a virus.

As a result, first reserve Zinovi has got into the final field, giving Mike de Kock a sixth runner in the 16-horse field.

Jockey Serino Moodley, who was slated to ride Melech, will now be aboard Zinovi.

De Kock-trained Dave The King remains a 3-1 favourite for the race with Frances Ethel now on offer at 5-1.

There has been some support for another two of the De Kock runners with Silver Sanctuary third favourite at 7-1 along with Betway Joburg Spring Challenge champion Back In Business.

There has also been support for Safe Passage who looked good when running a 2.80-length fifth behind Beating Wings in a Pinnacle Stakes over 1600m on the Turffontein Inside track recently.

Bettors need to take note of the R1-million Pick 6 carryover at Saturday’s Charity Mile  meeting with the pool likely to reach R5 million.

Current Betting: 3-1 Dave The King; 5-1 Frances Ethel; 7-1 Silver Sanctuary, Back In Business; 8-1 Barbaresco; 25-2 Celtic Rumours; 17-2 Back In Business; 14-1 Safe Passage, Gladatorian; 20-1 Winchester Mansion, Gimmeanotherchance, Meridius; 25-1 Hotarubi, Quasiforsure; 33-1 Shoemaker, Litigation, Zinovi.
