Charity and Nelson Mandela Bay Racing combine

August 2023

Charity and Nelson Mandela Bay Racing combine on Friday, August 11th, for a very exciting day at the races. Fairview will be set alight by Nomads Eastern Cape Charity Race Day in aid of Yokhuselo Haven. A good crowd is expected to support the charity drive and of course the race meeting of nine races on the Polytrack.

There will be auctions held and prizes could be won but the racing will be just as competitive as ever. Brace yourself for many close finishes on the fast-running Poly. This is only the second meeting of the East Cape season and the three top stables of trainers Gavin Smith, Alan Greeff and Sharon Kotzen got off to a good start last Friday. They look strong again, but the other yards are also keen to make an early impact. Kelly Mitchley also had a winner last week and has some runners that can find the number one box.

The meeting starts with the first race at 11:35 where Bridgerton (Smith) could get it right this time. The filly Amazing Colours (Kotzen) can get Bipot players off to a good start in the second race at 12:05.

Race three gets the Place Accumulator underway at 12:35 and a challenging Pick Six starts with the fourth race at 13:05.
Central City (Greeff) looks ready to win the Nomads Golf Club Novice Plate over 1600m, the first leg of the first Jackpot at 13:45.

It is about time Jaspero (Smith) finds his way to the winners’ enclosure again. He is a big runner in the first leg of the second Jackpot, race six at 14:25, but Mingshi (Mitchley) and Essos (Zietsman Oosthuizen) can’t be ignored.
