Cape team hoping to sting Royals

September 2022

Jack Milner

The Global Team Horse Racing event comes to a head at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Friday night, and it will be the Muzi Yeni-led KwaZulu-Natal Royals who will square off against Mark Khan and the Cape Stingers team.

The two teams clashed in the final round robin leg, and it was the Royals who came away with a facile 82-point victory.

The full eight-race card is run completed in two hours and 10 minutes and racing fans are in for a thrilling evening where every finishing position can make a difference.

To pick a winner is almost impossible as a lot will come down to skill and luck. Also, because this is a competition where horses are drawn and the idea is to have it all balanced out nicely so in order to level the playing fields as much as possible.

The main event on the card comes up in Race 7, which is an MR 99 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1600m.

Macara didn’t get the fast pace she desired last time but could make amends here. Lady Legend, Chanty Lane, Monashada and even Zimbabwean filly Didingwe all can add to a testing gallop and Macara should benefit.

It is a lovely race with plenty talent – all of Admire Me, Lyrical Dance, Victoria Paige and Monashada look capable of fighting out.

To run through the rules of the final.

The eight races are just 18 minutes apart, eight horses with four riders from each team of nine riders get turns to ride. Their mounts are drawn at random.

There are also whip restrictions as they are only carried for safety reasons and riders’ hands are not allowed to leave the reins.

In order to ensure the short times between races is achieved, a different set of jockeys will ride in each race, so riders will either compete in Races 1, 3, 5 and 7 or Races 2, 4, 6 and 8.
