Cape hopes rest at Durbanville

Even though the torrents of water have ceased, wet weather continues the plague racing in the Western Cape.

All signs pointed to a return to the track at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Wednesday but light overnight rain did not help the track to dry sufficiently and after three races the meeting had to be called off.

That has given the course a further 24 hours to dry out and hopefully the race scheduled for Thursday at the course will be able to take place in its entirety.

The first three races on the card are Maiden Juvenile Plates over various distances and with all the uncertainty as to whether a meeting would stand, trainers have been nominating their runners for almost all the meetings on offer.

One juvenile who was carded to make an appearance at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth last week and will now be in action at Durbanville ais Candice Bass-Robinson-trained Scarlet Macaw in Race 2.

After three placed finishes over 1000m, Scarlet Macaw by all accounts will relish the extra when trying 1250m. It will be her first run around the turn, but from gate No 1 she has everything in her favour.

It is interesting to note that it will be her fourth run, and her fourth start from pole position, but with her first three runs down the Kenilworth straight, the draw was not that important.

Aldo Domeyer will be doing duty in the saddle.
