Candice’s pair look best

March 2021

Jack Milner: The R200,000 GG Gaming Klawervlei Farm Sale Graduate (Non-Black Type) over 1250m tops the card at Durbanville on Sunday.

This is often a tricky race for a number of reasons.

The first is that there are some very well-bred unraced runners and even those who have run, have only had a couple of outings so it does make the form very difficult to decipher.

Last year, Tanzanite Queen had finished a close second on debut and was sent out a 7-10 favourite but was run out of it by still-unbeaten Kommetdieding who went off at 25-1.

There is one difference this year. The 2020 race was run at Kenilworth while this year it is at Durbanville and as the race will be around the turn, draws are important and racing experience will be a major advantage.

Although still maidens, Candice Bass-Robinson-trained pair of Global Goddess and Karen Blixen, named for the character played by Meryl Streep in Out Of Africa (dam Dinesen is the surname of the Danish writer who penned the book), could fight it out. Both are well drawn at Nos 5 and 4 respectively and they get the 2.5kg sex allowance.

With Aldo Domeyer aboard Global Goddess, she looks the pick. Having her third run last time, she went down a short head to Bye Bye Bombshell and could go one better.

Karen Blixen has run twice and was not beaten by far in both starts. She might enjoy racing around the turn.

Expect improvement from Justin Snaith-trained Zambaq. She drifted in the betting on debut, raced greenly but was only beaten 5.30 lengths by stablemate Europeana. Richard Fourie rides and they jump from barrier No 2.

Brett Crawford-trained Masked Vigilante must have a chance but has it all to do from No 14 draw.
