Jack Milner: Callan Murray has a good chance to ride another winner for trainer Brett Crawford at Kenilworth on Wednesday.
Murray relocated to Cape Town to ride for Crawford and had his first winner for his new stable since the official announcement was made in Race 1 at Kenilworth on Saturday.
Murray could improve his tally at the same course on Tuesday when he rides Winter Flight in Race 4, a MR 82 Handicap over 1000m.
There was a lot to like about his last run in a Pinnacle Stakes over the course and distance when he was narrowly beaten by Favorita in a three-horse photo finish. He raced up with the pace and outrun close home to finish 0.30 lengths back in third.
That was in a far stronger field than he faces this time as the average merit rating was 95 while in this event it is 82.
Most importantly, it was his first run after having been gelded so there should be further improvement on this occasion for the son of What A Winter.
Speed Of Night and Spring Awakening look the main dangers.
