Nightjar to come into the daylight

It is a tough card for punters at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Monday when they race on the turf track, but perhaps we can rely on trainer Gareth van Zyl and jockey Ant Mgudlwa to provide some relief.

They team up with Nightjar in Race 2, and this son of Rafeef looks to be crying out for the 1400m over which this Maiden Plate will be run.

Nightjar has only raced twice and there looks to be some massive improvement to come from this three-year-old colt.

In his first start, over 1200m at this course, he was drawn in gate No 12 of 14 runners, got too far back, but then went on to produce the third fastest finish. Although ending up in seventh spot, he was closing in on the leaders. He also suffered a scalp wound on his right hind leg.

His next start was over 1000m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville and Nightjar was outpaced early on but after being last at the 400m mark, he produced the fastest final 400m to finish fourth behind King Of The Gauls.

This time he has a lot going for him. He is nicely drawn at No 4 and being out of a Silvano mare, should love racing over 1400m and probably even further later in his career.

This does not appear to be the strongest of fields and Nightjar could use this opportunity to get out of the maidens and perhaps bigger and better things await.
