Book into Heartbreak Hotel

May 2021

LUKE FERRARIS

Jack Milner: Trainer Cliffie Miller appears to have settled down in the East Cape and can have his first feature-race victory at Fairview when Heartbreak Hotel lines up in the Listed World Sports Betting East Cape Derby on Friday.

As is the case with many of the runners in this line-up, this three-year-old son of Elusive Fort has not raced over 2400m but based on his last win over 2000m on the Polytrack, it should be no problem for the son of Elusive Fort.

Heartbreak Hotel was trained by Justin Snaith in the Western Cape where he ran against some decent opposition and this is not the strongest of Derby fields.

Miller has engaged Luke Ferraris for the ride and at 6-1 he could be excellent value.

Greg Cheyne rode Heartbreak Hotel to victory last time on the Polytrack but on this occasion he will team up with Alan Greeff aboard Ideal World filly Colorado Springs.

She narrowly missed a victory in the East Cape Oaks when the race got moved to the Polytrack and was touched off by Swazi Queen on the line.

She is now 1kg better off and the move back to turf should suit. But she, too, has not raced over the distance and there does remain that unknown over extra 400m.

Top weight Jaeger Moon is a six-time winner from 10 starts and is another who needs to be included in the exotics. Marco van Rensburg takes the ride.

Rafeef filly Sweet The Sound is a standout bet on the card after a hugely promising 1200m debut against winners.

She overcame a slow start and obvious inexperience when a fast-finishing second and should, with natural improvement, confirm that promise by going one better when she reappears for the Greeff-Cheyne combination over the same course and distance in Race 3.
