2023 will be a fantastic, family fun day at the races ushering in a colourful new season at
one of South Africa’s premier horse racing venues.
A free, family-friendly, sun-kissed vibrant experience not to be missed, the Betway Joburg

see the country’s finest thoroughbreds in action at the picturesque Turffontein.
Book from a range of luxury hospitality experiences with phenomenal entertainment or enjoy
a track side picnic and watch the young ones gleam with on-course kiddies entertainment.
Betway and 4Racing have literally upped the stakes and the ante in lighting up the Highveld
horseracing season, increasing stakes for the Gr2 Betway Joburg Spring Challenge from
R400 000 to an impressive R550 000, while stakes for the Gr2 Betway Joburg Spring Fillies
and Mares Challenge has increased from R300 000 to an enticing R450 000.
This year’s thrilling 13-part Betway Spring Series has been a build up to the highly-
anticipated 2023 Betway Summer Cup, which takes place on 25 November at Turffontein
Racecourse with a record bumper stake of R5 million – providing a huge boost in the revival
of South African horse racing.
For the punters and horseracing lovers, Betway Spring Challenge Day is traditionally a first
look at some of the likely contenders who will line up for the prestigious Betway Summer
Cup. For the punters on the Highveld there is the prospect of seeing the likes of breakout
star filly, Equus Champion two-year-old female, Mrs Geriatrix, and Equus Champion two-
year-old colt, Sandringham Summit, back on the track on Betway Spring Challenge Day.
The Betway Spring Series has been a celebration of captivating competitive racing
throughout the Highveld Spring Season, which is set to get bigger and better as the season
heats up.
“The Betway Joburg Spring Challenge will be an exciting racing event for the whole family,
so get down to Turffontein to enjoy some high-quality horseracing and entertainment. The
Betway Spring Series has been incredible and as it draws to a close, it heightens excitement
for the biggest meeting of the year, The Betway Summer Cup – an unmissable occasion for
all. Betway has been a phenomenal partner, not just for 4Racing, but also for the
horseracing fraternity and we greatly appreciate their passionate support,” said Gabriel
Soma, Head of Racing Operations at 4Racing.
