Belle to bring up Anton’s ton

Before she started to race he believed she had the ability to be a Fillies Guineas contender but unfortunately she has not lived up to her promise.

It is not that she has run badly. In her six starts, the daughter of Ideal World has placed five times and even on her single unplaced performance, she ended up a 3.50-length fifth behind Phoenix.

Peter takes her off to Greyville on Thursday and he seems to have found an interesting event for this three-year-old filly. She is carded to run in Race 1, a Maiden Plate over 1000m on the Polytrack.

Belle Of Belize certainly has a lot going for her. She is well drawn in barrier No 2 and has Anton Marcus up for the first time. Marcus has currently ridden 99 winners this season so a win on Belle Of Belize will bring up his century.  

However, there are a couple of concerns. This will be her first outing on the Polytrack, she is taking on the boys, and it will also be her first run over 1000m.

Only the race will tell if she enjoys the surface but the other two should not prove too much of a hurdle. Because she is taking on colts and geldings, Belle Of Belize gets a 2.5kg sex allowance. At level weights she would have had a marginal advantage at the weights, but the allowance sees her rated at least 3kg better off with any of her rivals.

With regards to the drop in distance, she does have excellent gate speed and should easily keep up with the pace. From a good draw that will make her very hard to beat.
