Be with Domeyer in the Cape

August 2024

It should pay to follow jockey Aldo Domeyer on the nine-race card at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Saturday.

He has a full book of rides, six for Candice Bass-Robinson including two promising youngsters who make their three-year-old debuts after promising juvenile campaigns last season, as well as two rides for Piet Steyn who sticks with Domeyer, hoping for a change of fortune after narrow recent defeats together.

While most of Domeyer's mounts have good winning chances, three of his rides - in Races 4, 5 and 6 - are of particular interest and will appeal to bettors of TABs popular Pick 3 bet, which is the ideal route to maximizing punters' winnings.

Bass-Robinson's coupling in Race 4 is spearheaded by Rafeef colt Empire State who, despite his inexperience and longshot odds of 33-1, finished an eye-catching second on debut over 1250m in a two-year-old contest at Hollywoodbets Durbanville last month.

Empire State would have come on appreciably with the benefit of that experience and this recently turned three-year-old won't have to improve a great deal to go one better and open his account under Domeyer over 1200m.

Steyn's four-year-old Spirit's Unite has been ridden twice by Domeyer over 1400m and finished a close-up second in both outings, but it could be third time lucky for the combination in Race 5 over 1200m - a distance over which Spirit's Unite has already proven effective.

Domeyer could also have had something to do with the trainer's decision to cut back in trip with this The United States gelding who deserves to be rewarded for his consistency.

Hopes of a Domeyer hat-trick and the Pick 3 jackpot rest with last-start winner Kamakazi in Race 6 over 1600m. Bass-Robinson's charge was having her first crack at 1600m when leading from start to finish over the same course and distance under Grant van Niekerk on 26 May.

She earned a four-point penalty for that 1.75-length all-the-way success but this four-year-old Captain Of All filly could have more to offer over the distance, so that rating hike is unlikely to prevent her from making another bold front-running bid for victory.
