There are full fields at Scottsville on Sunday and there is an open look about most of the races, which usually indicates there is good value on the card.
However, there are two races where a particular horse in each stands out.
Ethiopian Queen was heavily supported on debut but lacked experience, and after showing good pace tired late, allowing another nice individual, Maryah, to go by. She rates the one to beat over a shorter trip in Race 1, a Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1000m for fillies on Sunday and should start the day off nicely.
An interesting runner comes up in Race 6, a Conditional Graduation over 1200m, where Garth Puller sends out Captain Fontane.
This full brother to Snowdance won both his starts impressively and as one of his owners is David Ferraris, he was due to be shipped off to Hong Kong to continue his career. Sadly for Hong Kong, but fortunate for South African racing, the Covid-19 pandemic put paid to that and the ultra-talented Captain Al gelding could take up from where he left off and go through the divisions locally.
In his comment in ComputaForm, Puller wrote that while he acknowledged his charge had not raced since August last year, “he is doing well at home, should run well”.
He looks different division to his opposition and one can take a chance and banker him in all bets. Ashton Arries takes the ride this time.
