Bank on Karmology to collect at York

July 2024

Karmology can complete a quickfire double in the British EBF Lyric Fillies' Stakes at York.

The four-year-old Karl Burke inmate began her season with a third-place finish at Ripon on heavy ground in April, 7.5-lengths in arrears of Maxi King.

She then gave a much better account of herself on more favourable good ground at Chester when she kept on for second despite not getting a clear run and was only 1.25-lengths adrift of Esmeray at the line.

But she did get her nose in front on the Knavesmire earlier this month when ridden prominently, taking over the lead 600m from home and keeping on well to book a trip to the winner's enclosure.

A return to York can bear further fruit, with Sam James again in the plate.

Praetorian can go one better and break his maiden in the Ire-Incentive, It Pays To Buy Irish EBF Restricted Novice Stakes.

The son of Romanised was third on his racecourse debut at Pontefract in May in the hands of Hollie Doyle, before dropping down in grade at Newmarket where he finished a well-beaten second to Billboard Star.

Archie Watson's charge is one of the more experienced horses in the race and can come out on top with that effort under his belt.

Merrimack can defy a 6lb penalty in the Sky Bet Go-Racing-In-Yorkshire Summer Festival Handicap.

The three-year launched his season in disappointing fashion when finishing last at Yarmouth, after which he moved to Stuart Williams from Simon and Ed Crisford.

He was also last on his first two starts for his new stable, but since then a drop in trip has changed his fortunes.

He broke his maiden at the seventh time of asking at Brighton where he made all in isolation along the far rail to come home 2.5-lengths clear over 1200m in a visor for the first time.

He dropped back to the minimum trip next time out at Yarmouth earlier this month and again led from the front to come home a comfortable 3.25-lengths clear of Doodlebug.

Stepping up in grade he is probably ahead of the handicapper given the improvement he has found and can bring up a monthly hat-trick of victories.

Tactician can make up for a narrow defeat on his last visit to Ascot with victory in the John Guest Racing Brown Jack Handicap back at the Berkshire track.

The Lope De Vega colt was beaten only a head by Dancing In Paris, having earlier won over 2800m at Goodwood.

The way he stuck to his task last time suggests this 3200m will be well within his compass, on just his second try in handicaps.

Mutaawid can convert winning form on the all-weather to turf in the John Guest Racing Handicap.

The son of Frankel won for the first time on the all-weather at Kempton and can go back-to-back.

Over obstacles at Uttoxter, Earth Cry can pick up a third victory of the summer in the Alby Handicap Hurdle.

The six-year-old Neil Mulholland-trained gelding has only finished outside of the top three on one occasion in six runs this year since returning from nearly a year off the track and changing hands from Milton Harris to Mulholland.

Following wins at Fontwell and Perth, he can add a fifth career victory to his resume. - Press Association
