Bank on Crawford and Mxothwa at Durbanville

October 2022

Jack Milner

Trainer Brett Crawford and jockey Louis Mxothwa have turned into a highly successful combination.

In recent times, they have a win record of 16.32% but if one analysis runners who finish in the top four, that percentage increases to just under 60%.

Crawford’s stable is in good form and he and Mxothwa team up with some very strong runners at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Wednesday.

It would come as quite a surprise were they to go home empty handed, but they could quite comfortably end up with a fistful of winners.

Perhaps the best on the day comes up in Race 4, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1600m, where Make It Snappy makes her second appearance at a racecourse. There was a lot to like about the debut run of the Dynasty filly, which was over 1400m at Kenilworth in August.

Going off at 11-2 after touching 7-2, Make It Snappy raced greenly but then kicked on bet of all to finish third, beaten just 0.60 lengths by Jewlray.

She will benefit from the extra 200m and is going to improve markedly on that performance and as long as she can handle the Durbanville track.

Crawford and Mxothwa can get the ball rolling in Race 1, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1250m, where they team up with well-bred Allende.

This Dynasty filly, whose half-brother African Rain finished a close-up third in the Grade 1 Cape Flying Championship, was fourth on debut over 1200m when a fast-finishing second over the course and distance from a wide draw, to end up a 0.60-length second behind Gimme’s Lassie.

Both form lines have worked out well, with three winners coming from the first run and one from the second.

In addition, this time Allende is favourably drawn in gate No 4.
