Aworkinprogress to extend winning streak at Lingfield

February 2025

Aworkinprogress has been exactly that for Nick Gifford, but he is on a four-timer for the season in the Download The At The Races App Handicap Chase at Lingfield on Tuesday.

Having had the misfortunate of running in the same point-to-points as classy types Jingko Blue and Romeo Coolio, the six-year-old was well beaten in his first four starts over hurdles, which led to him running off a lowly mark of 90 last spring.

He came good with an emphatic win at Fontwell and has continued his upward trajectory over the larger obstacles this term, scoring first time out at Stratford before defying a 5-point rise at Lingfield and then a further 8-point hike at Lingfield.

Stepping up to almost 4800m has obviously brought out plenty more in him and who knows what is left in the locker.

Jeremy Scott did not train a winner between July and December of last year, but there have been definite shoots of recovery in recent weeks, which makes his Pilsdon Pen of appeal in the Sky Sports Racing Virgin 535 Handicap Chase.

Very consistent overall, in four outings last term he was not out of the first three, winning twice, and he starts this year 4 points higher.

He is only eight, though, and still ought to be competitive if fit enough to do himself justice after over a year off the track.

Olly Murphy is usually a good man to follow in races such as the Play At The Races Stableduel Conditional Jockeys' Training Series Handicap Hurdle.

He runs Double Oban, the mount of Lewis Stones, who should prove hard to beat.

Given the race by the Market Rasen stewards last time out, he is 3lb higher and still improving.

At Ayr, Nicky Richards' Baratablet looks interesting in the Virgin Bet Every Saturday Money Back Maiden Hurdle.

Sent off favourite on his racecourse debut in an Ayr bumper, he had to settle for second.

Richards has wasted no time in sending the five-year-old over obstacles and the hint should be taken.

Stablemate Sunnyvilla was a winner last time out at Haydock in heavy ground in December and has been given plenty of time to get over it.

That was his first run for the yard having come from Ireland, but he looked a well handicapped beast.

The handicapper has reacted by putting him up 7lb but that would not have stopped him on Merseyside and he could well follow up in the Virgin Bet Daily Price Boosts Handicap Chase.

Lucinda Russell's Hunters Spring impressed on her debut at Newcastle on the all-weather and the four-year-old can defy a penalty in the Virgin Bet Mares' Open National Hunt Flat Race.

On the all-weather at Wolverhampton, Ruth Carr's Fools Rush In can make it back-to-back wins over the course and distance in the Weekly £5 Free Bet With BetUK Handicap. - Press Association
