Alexanders can make a lucrative visit to Greyville
December 2020
Jack Milner: Gary and Dean Alexander have announced they will be relocating to Australia in the next 18 months but before they do, they will be making a slightly shorter stopover in Durban.
They have Magic School in the Grade 3 Flamboyant Stakes and Mount Laurel in the Listed Christmas Handicap, both over 1600m on the turf on Saturday at Hollywoodbets Greyville, and they both have decent winning chances.
Magic School is fleetfooted and can get away from the field racing from the front. She was not that far off the sensational youngster Anything Goes, so has the class, speed and stamina to be highly competitive.
This will be her first race at Greyville but this is a track that should suit her. She is beautifully drawn at No 3 and has Denis Schwarz in the irons.
The local hopes will rest with Silent Crusade who has shown she can compete against the best given the right conditions.
Running third to former Equus champion Oh Susanna around a year and a half ago bears testimony to her ability, although at this stage in her career she might not be quite as in-form as Magic School and best-weighted Gallic Princess.
Gallic Princess boasts a victory over Rio Querari, who beat the best at Kenilworth recently. The trip should suit her on pedigree but her wide draw may prove costly.
Mount Laurel ran a 2.05-length third behind Summer Pudding in a Pinnacle Stakes over 1600m two runs back and then put up a very nice fifth behind Winter Smoke in the Grade 3 Magnolia Handicap over 1160m.
Lyle Hewitson takes the ride but he will face a very strong challenge from lightly weighted Baby Shooz.
He won his last outing without coming under any pressure and has proven stamina. Muzi Yeni rides.
Most of the races on the day appear tough, but Macara looks to have more to come and rates the other runner on the day worth a solid bet. She races in Race 8, a MR 76 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1600m.
