Alethiometer heading in the right direction

June 2023

Alethiometer is one to be with in the Join Racing TV Now Fillies’ Handicap at Ayr on Monday.

The four-year-old made a most encouraging return from an absence of 310 days when runner-up over a mile at Redcar last month.

Always nicely on the pace, Michael Dods’ charge kicked over 200m out and in the end only gave best to the unexposed Sensei, who was in receipt of plenty of weight. He comes back to his favoured 1400m and has to be on the shortlist.

Indian Sounds can snap a lengthy losing run with victory in the Staycations At Western House Hotel Handicap.

The Paul Midgley-trained gelding last got his head in front in September 2020, after which he crept up to a mark in the 90s.

He is now down to a rating of 64 and arrives north of the border on the back of an encouraging fourth place at Pontefract, where he finished as well as anything to be closest at the line having been at the back of the field.

That rather hinted his turn might once again be near and a sound surface is what he thrives on, which is another bonus.

Imperative has hit the ground running for Iain Jardine after moving from Charlie Hills and is fancied to go in again in the Take That Tribute At Western House Handicap.

The Sea The Stars gelding was second first time up for his new yard, before always doing enough to win over this course and distance. He has very few miles on the clock for a four-year-old and should be capable of better still.

Bollin Margaret can be followed in the Download The Vickers.Bet App Handicap at Thirsk.

David Allan had to weave his way through a bit from the two pole at Redcar and while not unlucky as such, it is worth noting the winner was able to gather momentum off a clear passage. A fast surface is what she needs and she runs off the same mark.

At Windsor, it would not be a huge surprise to see Reminder put an unfortunate trip to Wolverhampton on debut behind with her with a good run in the Hutton Bubear Fillies’ Novice Stakes.

She was beaten 5.25 lengths in seventh at Dunstall Park, but the result certainly does not reflect her effort as she completely lost her position when hampered after 400m and struggled to regain her rhythm.

Keep an eye on Secret Moment at Wolverhampton, he has plenty of form at Dunstall Park and Oisin Murphy for Saeed bin Suroor is never a bad combination to be with. – Press Association
