A ship-load of fun

PRAWN FESTIVAL

The annual Cape Town Prawn Festival at Kenilworth Racecourse brought the curtain down on the Summer Of Champions season – with a much bigger turnout than ever before.

The day has gone from strength to strength and cemented itself on the Western Cape social calendar.

“People are still interested in horseracing,” was the quote of the day by Brynn Ressell of Vasco Taverna and Pub – sponsor of the main race, the Vasco Prix Du Cap, which was won by Elusive Heart who came home lonely for the Glen Kotzen yard.

The bash delivered a “ship-load” of great food, drinks and live entertainment to the thousands of people who attended. Various types of seafood dishes were served throughout the day, and for those not so keen on seafood there were other food trucks to tantalise the taste buds.

Prizes to the value of R70,000 were sponsored by Hi-Fi Corporation in lucky draws throughout the day and an additional grand prize of R30,000 in household appliances was won by Loschni Williams.

Guineas Day at Turffontein in Johannesburg on Saturday sees the start of the exciting SA Triple Crown and the Wilgerbosdrift Triple Tiara. The autumn season on the Highveld carries phenomenal prize money for those taking on the challenge.
