A lollipop for my boy in KZN

A sweet-tasting treat awaits patient punters on the Polytrack at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday as My Boy Lollipop is firmly excepted to follow up on his maiden success in Race 8, a Class C Stakes race over 1200m.

Trainer Frank Robinson was quite disappointed when My Boy Lollipop ran unplaced, beaten as short odds-on favourite second time out. The son of Soqrat was an eye-catching second on debut, but eventually ended up being very costly to follow, despite some very good races – until last time out.

He ran out an impressive winner at Hollywoodbets Scottsville with nothing else coming close - and that came after a layoff. That was his first run after gelding and he was a much more composed horse.

He could now be ready to fulfil his true potential. Admittedly Wednesday’s race is much more competitive, but he has been given pole position in his second try on the poly, and it will be interesting to see if anything gets close.

Specialists such as Winter Waves and Mc Dazzler have seen and done it all but being seven-year-olds should find it difficult to catch the up-and-coming three-year-old.

Raymond Danielson, who rode a superb race aboard Gimmefabulous to win the Grade 3 Betway Mother Russia Stakes after losing the crop at a crucial stage, is an interesting visitor at the meeting. He has secured some plum rides that could be worth following.

He rides Roy’s Grace for former riding master and veteran trainer Paul Gadsby in Race 2, an Open Maiden for fillies and mares over 1200m. The Time Thief filly was eating up the ground last time when the line came in time for eventual winner and strong form choice at the time, Highveld raider Zalta Star. She looks to be up against many an unfinished article in her heat and being a lightly raced four-year-old could take advantage.

Former Highveld-based runner Shesarocket has the best of the draws and could prefer the faster surface, so she looks the horse for Swingers and Exactas.
