ZOOMING IN

Written by Henk Steenkamp | Nov 2, 2023 8:22:52 PM

Western Cape trainer Brett Crawford is zooming in on the R250 000 Listed Racehorse Owners Association (ROA) Stakes.

Zoomie is the hot favourite to win this prestigious race for three-year-olds over 1600m on the Fairview Turf track in the Eastern Cape on Friday.

With regular jockey Louie Mxothwa in the saddle, Zoomie has been performing very well in strong company in the Western Cape and is ready to win.

Zoomie showed in his last start the rise in distance will suit him and he is weighted to get the better of his seven challengers.

There are dangers to the favourite and it is not a case of just pitching up to collect the trophy.

Fairy Knight and Vision Of Wonder have the ability to keep the trophy in Nelson Mandela Bay.

Jockey Richard Fourie and Fairy Knight have done very well on the Fairview grass and will be right there from a good draw.

Then there is the Smith factor. The East Cape champion trainer Gavin Smith is aiming to win this race for a fourth time in a row and Vision Of Wonder will have many supporters to do the job.

He will make everybody work to win the race and if he gets the mile, he is in with a shout. S’manga Khumalo takes the ride.

The improving Hat’s Pride from the visiting Glen Kotzen yard should run well and is an inclusion for the Quartet, along with Fairy Knight, Zoomie and Vision Of Wonder.

This race has been won by big names in the past and although a small field will line up this time, we are in for another cracking renewal of the ROA Stakes, race seven at 16:15.

The Sunshine Coast Eventing Club Charity Race Day will start with the first race at 12:45, which is the first leg of the Bipot.

Place Accumulator players get involved from the second race at 13:20 and race three, off at 13:55, is the first leg of the Pick Six.

Pick Six players will be tempted to start with a banker in the first leg when the filly Unyielding (Greeff) will be going for a third win on the trot.

Another Greeff runner which must be included in all bets is Global Ally in race four, the first leg of the first Jackpot, at 14:30.

The eighth race jumps at 16:50 and as usual at Fairview the lucky last is a wide open affair. The Quartet is the bet for this one.
