ZAVATERI CAN SEE THEM ALL OFF FOR DEWHURST DELIGHT

October 2025

By Josh Luckhurst, PA

Zavateri can come out on top in an eagerly-awaited battle with Gstaad and

Distant Storm to maintain his perfect juvenile record and claim the Darley

Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket.

Eve Johnson Houghton has already confirmed the Group One contest will be her

star colt's final start of a stunning campaign, which has seen the two-year-old

land the July Stakes, Vintage Stakes and the Vincent O'Brien National Stakes.

The latter saw a titanic tussle with Aidan O'Brien's Gstaad, coming out on top

by a head at the Curragh.

Distant Storm, trained by Charlie Appleby, comes into the equation following

his Tattersalls Stakes triumph last month, but Zavateri knows how to put his

head down and might have been a shade better value than the narrow margin

suggests last time.

He seems certain to relish the run to the line after they come out of the dip

and it will take a determined one to beat him.

Dante Stakes runner-up Damysus should finally get his neck in front in Pattern

company in the Too Darn Hot Darley Stakes.

The Wathnan Racing-owned, John and Thady Gosden-trained three-year-old has yet

to win on British turf, but did come back to winning ways at Deauville last time

out.

Damysus finished behind Pride Of Arras in the Dante earlier this season and

while the Derby did not go to plan, he remains a horse of some potential and the

higher level of experience should help him prevail.

Reverend Hubert hopes to build on his victory over course and distance to

secure the Club Godolphin Cesarewitch Handicap.

Charles Byrnes' charge bolted up by eight lengths in the Cesarewitch Trial

Handicap and with conditions set to be similar, it is hard to rule out the

seven-year-old for a yard that definitely knows the time of day.

Spyce looks a progressive type who could handle the step up in trip to land the

Night Of Thunder Zetland Stakes.

Alan King's two-year-old produced a fast finish to come home in second on debut

before winning over a mile at Yarmouth last month. There will be an extra two

furlongs this time, but the son of Too Darn Hot should handle the step up.

Al Zanati is out to maintain his unbeaten record in the Emirates Autumn

Stakes.

The Charlie Appleby-trained colt beat August George, who subsequently came

second in the Goffs Million, on his sole run and looks an exciting prospect.

On the Knavesmire at York, William Haggas' Division targets a hat-trick as he

steps up to Listed territory in the Coral Rockingham Stakes.

Another in the Wathnan colours, the two-year-old son of Kingman has enjoyed

comfortable odds-on wins at Haydock and Yarmouth and will take that momentum

into the opening six-furlong race.

Michael Dods can come up trumps in the Coral Sprint Trophy with Northern

Ticker, who has previously won over course and distance.

French Ship should maintain his great Chepstow form by landing the Wasdell

Group Silver Trophy Handicap Hurdle.

The Philip Hobbs and Johnson White-trained five-year-old has one victory and a

runner-up spot in two starts at the Welsh Venue.

At Hexham, Mickey Bowen's King Roly can deny stablemate Art Of Diplomacy a

six-timer in the Positive Change Plate Novices' Limited Handicap Chase.

On the all-weather at Wolverhampton, The Bunt is worth a look in the Sky Sports

Racing Sky 415 Handicap for trainer Simon Pearce, despite this being his first

start in 566 days.
