Three feature events head up the 10-race card at Durbanville on Saturday and Muzi Yeni could have a massive in their outcome.
The first comes up in Race 6 and is the Listed Settlers Trophy over 2000m. Trainer Justin Snaith holds a strong hand with three runners and one often looks to the jockey engagements to indicate the winner. However, on this occasion it could be all about the weights as Yeni has picked up the runner who could be the stable elect, Landoftherisingsun.
This Danon Platina gelding has won two of his 10 starts. He has progressed nicely of late, with those two victories coming in his last but two outings, and he was not disgraced when third over 1400m at Kenilworth on 26 July. This will be his first attempt at the trip, but he should relish it.
In addition, he carries just 52kg and that should make him highly competitive in what does look to be a very open event.
Stable companion Call To Unite gets the services of Richard Fourie, who has a good record at this track. He has run seven times at this course, winning three and placing in the top four on three other occasions.
The Vercingetorix gelding was runner-up over this course and distance in February and will not go down easily. Ardabil, the third Snaith-trained runner, is consistent but returns from a short break.
Trainer Andre Nel has his yard in good form, and his charge, Congressman, has hit top form with three wins from his last four starts. He was successful when last seen at this track and has also won over this distance.
The Grade 3 Schweppes Diana Stakes over 1400m comes up in Race 7 and Yeni has picked up another lightly weighted Snaith runner in She’s My World. However, she is badly out of the weights and has to jump from No 12 draw.
Fourie has been getting the best out of Swiatek, who completed a hat-trick in fine style when winning over this track and trip on 7 September, all three wins coming with Fourie aboard.
The main threat will come from unbeaten Princess Of Gaul, winner of the Grade 2 Debutante Stakes over 1200m at HWB Greyville in July who looks dangerous with just 53.5kg on her back and jumping from draw No 1.
Sean Veale takes the ride.
Very good horses often win the Racing Coast Matchem Stakes (Grade 3) over 1400m and Yeni has an excellent opportunity aboard Snaith-trained Absolutely Yes. He has won three of his six starts and Yeni seems to get the best out of him.
Candice Bass saddles a rejuvenated seven-year-old gelding, Sugar Mountain, who has won his last three starts under Aldo Domeyer. He is at his best on heavy ground, conditions he has enjoyed in his last two wins, but this will be a much tougher task as he faces rivals with strong finishing kicks.
