Woman Of Power deserves a clean win

Polytrack meetings at Fairview keep on coming and there are some difficult races to wade through. But there are also some decent races and there are two runners who may be worth looking at on Friday.

Vercingetorix filly Woman Of Power has been extremely unlucky of late and her supporters and the owners must be extremely frustrated.

The four-year-old filly has won two of her 14 starts, both on the turf, but recently joined the yard of trainer Alan Greeff.

He immediately tried her on the Polytrack and after a sustained battle with Gavin Smith-trained Montelena there was nothing between them at the post. There was some interference caused to Montelena and the stipes awarded the race to her after a successful objection.

That must have hurt her supporters, but what happened in her next start must have hurt even more.

Woman Of Power was seen to be travelling well throughout the race and always looked to have the measure of the rival in this and winner of that race Kabon Kapi.

Her jockey was so confident of victory he never pulled the stick on her at all and she was snared on the line, going down a short-head

Jockey Richard Fourie will be aboard the filly in Race 3 at Fairview on Friday, a MR 82 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1200m at Fairview.

and although it is a very competitive handicap, hopefully she can make amends.

Trainer Jacques Strydom does not have as many runners or horses as the big boys, but he normally does very well with those he sends out and Fire Alley has done him very proud of late.

The seven-year-old gelding steps out again in Race 7, the Fairview 1900.

Fire Alley has already won the big one, the Algoa Cup, and followed up that with success in the Founders Trophy.

The Flower Alley gelding only won by 0.50 lengths last time out but it was obvious he had something left in the tank and looks set to notch up another win on the Polytrack.
