Winning return for Body Electric

July 2022

Jack Milner

Two horses who looked highly promising after their debut wins but then disappointed in feature races will clash in Race 2 at Kenilworth on Tuesday, a Juvenile Plate for fillies over 1000m.

Justin Snaith-trained Gimmethegreenlight filly Pacific Green made a promising winning debut for over 1000m but fluffed her lines when contesting the Listed Summer Juvenile Stakes on Cape Met day.

She proved that run was all wrong, though, when returning from more than four months out to finish a creditable fourth in open company over 1100m last month.

Body Electric, trained by Candice Bass-Robinson, was a facile winner on debut over track and trip before blotting her copy book second time out in the Grade 3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery over 1200m in February.

She was sent off 10-11 favourite for that race so it was clear something went dreadfully wrong with the daughter of Canford Cliffs. She lifted a shoe during the running of the race and that must have caused the problem that has seen her out of action for 143 days.

However, in her comment in Computaform, Bass-Robinson wrote the filly was doing nicely and was expected to run well.

So, she is the selection to make a winning comeback under Aldo Domeyer.

Well-bred Navy Strength took time to come to hand and proved costly to follow as a maiden but the decision to geld the three-year-old son of Dynasty has proved a masterstroke.

He opened his account at the 10th time of asking after consecutive seconds before a creditable front-running fifth in the Grade 3 Legal Eagle Stakes over 1800m.

Snaith's charge was penalised 4kg for that effort but should be hard to beat if reproducing that sort of form under Fourie in Race 7, a Middle Stakes over 1950m.
