Win with Woodruff’s Wing Walker

June 2025

Western Cape conditioner Lucinda Woodruff has enjoyed a decent Champions Seasons stint with her runners at KwaZulu-Natal, and she looks set to visit the winner’s enclosure again on Wednesday at Hollywoodbets Greyville when they race on the Polytrack.

In Race 1, a Maiden Plate over 1200m, she sends out Wing Walker who patently brings the best form into the contest. The Rafeef gelding started his career off in steady fashion, but his last two efforts are out of the top drawer in terms of maiden form.

In the Cape, he ran on strongly to finish second against winners in his penultimate race over 1250m at HWB Durbanville and then on local debut found only one better over 1200m in Mike and Mathew de Kock-trained Yippee Kiyay who was subsequently entered in a listed feature. The form was franked by Mighty Zambezi who was well beaten by Wing Walker but who then pulled off a coup of sorts in his next race.

Higher Love is the horse for Swingers and Exactas. He ran a fair race after a rest and stripping fitter and jumping from gate No1 should have every chance of earning again. But after finding Victor Hugo too good he could find his stablemate, Wing Walker, just as hard to beat.

Wing Walker has the pace to be a natural on the poly and rates as the best bet on the card. He can be included in all to come bets.

Another horse with Western Cape form that looks worth following is Glen Kotzen-trained Vercingetorix gelding Spectacular. The three-year-old Maiden moved up the likely winner against Class 5 runners but a wide draw and soft going looked to have taken its toll at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth in the Cape. He takes on winners on his poly debut in Race 5, but the youngster’s form looks a touch better than rivals and he also has a 4kg apprentice claim to boot.
