Win will be Nel’s main target for his Greyville runner
January 2021
Jack Milner: Unless you have been backing him for places or banking him in BiPots and Exactas, Policy Target has been a lot more popular with bookmakers than punters.
After finishing unplaced in his first two starts, the Master Of My Fate gelding has notched up four successive seconds. In his last three, he has started around even money and that has made him costly to follow.
He lines up again in Race 3 at Greyville on Wednesday, a Maiden Plate over 1900m on the Polytrack, and hopefully he can finally become the groom at this wedding. He looked all the rage on his Polytrack debut last time, but found one better in Count Marsh.
Like Policy Target, Count Marsh was having his first run on the Polytrack and trying 1600m for the first time.
But 1600m might have been too short for Andre Nel’s charge whose two previous runs on the turf were over 2000m. On breeding, he is likely to find the extra 300m this time more to his liking and hopefully that will see him finally enter the No 1 box.
Main danger Zero Rate finished 1.30 lengths behind Policy Target when they met in November, so he is held, on paper at least.
