Wimbledon to win

Wimbledon Hawkeye can emulate his sire Kameko by winning the William Hill Futurity Trophy at Doncaster.

Like Kameko, Wimbledon Hawkeye already has a Royal Lodge Stakes victory in the bag and can make the leap to Group One level in a mile contest that so often proves a good pointer to the future.

Having shown plenty of class when second to The Lion In Winter in the Acomb at York, James Owen’s charge made a seamless switch to a mile at Newmarket, travelling well in a strongly-run race and recording a length-and-a-half victory over the reopposing Royal Playwright.

Having triumphed on soft ground there, he should cope with testing conditions on Town Moor and can prove a worthy favourite.

Arctic Voyage made a splash at Nottingham last time out and can follow up in the Listed William Hill Prospect Stakes.

A half-brother to Group One winner Lady Bowthorpe, he posted a fair third on debut at Newbury before breezing home six and a half lengths clear at Nottingham earlier in the month. He looks a smart prospect.

Make You Smile was the victor at Newbury, beating Arctic Voyage by seven lengths in a very taking manner.

It was heavy ground on that occasion which may well have had an impact on the winning margin, but Hugo Palmer’s gelding saw out every yard of the seven-furlong trip.

He returns to Newbury for the BetVictor Horris Hill Stakes and is worth a shot in Group Three company.

The mud will certainly be flying at the Berkshire circuit, so it will pay to side with horses proven on such going.

Feigning Madness fits that bill in the BetVictor St Simon Stakes. A winner on soft and heavy last year, he has been off the track since a disappointing Epsom run back in April, when both the track and good ground had him all at sea.

Gelded subsequently, Feigning Madness moves up to a mile and a half and while he has much to find with Al Aasy on the ratings, he is at least sure to be suited by what can be a specialist surface.

Givemefive is expected to get his season off to a perfect start in the Masterson Holdings Hurdle at Cheltenham.

Winner of two of his four outings over hurdles last term, Givemefive showed plenty of ability in finishing second in the Adonis at Kempton before slightly disappointing subsequently when fourth at Fairyhouse.

Harry Derham gave him a Flat spin at Haydock last month ahead of this engagement and the fact he was fit enough to finish second that day certainly bodes well for this assignment.

He is up against it on the ratings with top-weight Bottler’secret but Givemefive can feel the benefit of his prep run.

Chasing Fire could offer some value in the William Hill Committed To Top Prices Handicap Chase.

Olly Murphy’s charge has traditionally run well fresh, winning first time out in each of the last three seasons.

He rounded out the last campaign with victory in a competitive Kelso heat, his first success in handicap chase company on what was his sixth start over the bigger obstacles.

The handicapper raised him 6lb for that three-length success, but Chasing Fire is open to further improvement and should relish the early-season conditions.

Intense Approach posted a fine effort in the Persian War at Chepstow a couple of weeks ago, finishing second to a decent type in Flying Fortune. A drop in company for the William Hill Betting Done Properly Novices’ Hurdle should help his cause.

Salamanca has not run since contesting the Lingfield Derby Trial back in May but he takes the eye in the CCR Novice Stakes at Chelmsford.

Sent off a 16-1 shot, Salamanca was outclassed by the likes of Derby second Ambiente Friendly and St Leger runner-up Illinois.

There does not appear to be a rival of that calibre in this contest.
