WEEKEND SOCCER HIGHLIGHTS: 12 - 14 April

April 2024

WHAT A WEEKEND WITH A R26-MILLION SOCCER 13!

TAB’s popular Soccer 13 gives football fans another great opportunity to win a mountain of money this Saturday with a guaranteed R26-million pool! That’s mind-blowing cash and all you have to do to get your chance of collecting is to pick a number from one to three 13 times. There are also five cash-added pools tonight and tomorrow and all are loaded with quality matches. What a weekend!

BANK ON BRENTFORD AND BRIGHTON IN THE EPL

The first four matches in the mega Soccer 13 are English Premier League clashes and offer a couple of bankers. The rest of the games are from the English Championship, which is even more ferocious than usual as Leicester, Leeds and Ipswich slug it out for the two automatic promotion places to the EPL with nine other clubs still in the running for the playoffs and the remaining EPL slot.

Brentford are too close to the relegation zone for comfort and long overdue to win after a sequence of four draws and five losses. Their home clash with Sheffield United gives them an ideal chance to break the drought, while Brighton should pack too many tricks for Burnley provided they don’t concede any stupid goals by overdoing De Zerbi’s passion for playing out from the back. And if you need to reduce the cost of your perm, it may pay to gamble on Notts winning at home.

In the Championship games Southampton should win at home, as should Millwall who are home to Cardiff. Millwall are inevitably a handful in their own backyard as Leicester discovered midweek and this is another game they need to win to get further away from the spectre of relegation. West Bromwich and Coventry may also be worth gambling on to win.

At home there are two Nedbank Cup quarter-finals this Saturday and both are competitive, although Pirates should only have to repeat their destruction of Arrows to put AmaZulu to the sword in Durban.

Suggested R216 Soccer 13 for Saturday: 2,3 x 1 x 3 x 1 x 3 x 1,2,3 x 1,2,3 x 1 x 1 x 2,3 x 1,2,3 x 1 x 1.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS WEEKEND

SHORT: Adams may play against SuperSport; Pirates striker likely to miss cup clash; Klopp hoping for return of key players; Salernitana’s problems mount; Villa may face Arsenal without couple of key players.

* Key midfielder Jayden Adams, who went with Bafana Bafana to the Africa Cup of Nations finals, is struggling with an adductor injury. In order to hasten his recovery for tomorrow’s Nedbank Cup quarter-final against SuperSport, coach Steve Barker left him out of last weekend’s draw with Sekhukhune.

* Orlando Pirates striker Evidence Makgopa’s thigh injury is taking longer than expected to heal and it is unlikely he will be risked in tomorrow’s Nedbank Cup tie at AmaZulu. His absence has been tempered by the arrival back from loan of Tshegofatso Mabasa, who netted a hat trick for the Buccaneers last weekend in a rampant 7-1 victory over Golden Arrows.

* Liverpool are hoping goalkeeper Alisson Becker (thigh), defender Trent Alexander-Arnold (knee) and midfielder Diogo Jota (knee) could make their comebacks from injury against Crystal Palace on Sunday. Joel Matip (knee), Ben Doak (knee), and Thiago Alcantara (muscle) are longer-term absentees, as is Stefan Bajcetic with a troublesome calf problem.

* Relegation-threatened Salernitana go into tonight’s Serie A clash against Torino with a long list of injuries. Missing are Grigoris Kastanos (knee) and Federico Fazio (muscle), as well as Toma Basic and Guillermo Ochoa with unspecified injuries. Konstantinos Manolas (muscle) may start at centre-back with Jerome Boateng likely to stand in if the Greek defender is unavailable.

* Clement Lenglet is doubtful for Aston Villa’s crunch game against Arsenal after he was ruled out against Lille yesterday. Matty Cash injured a hamstring on international duty with Poland and is working towards a return, although he is training individually.

M1 LASK Linz vs Red Bull Salzburg: R100,000-added blockbuster Friday night pool so have a go. LASK have lost their last four home games against Salzburg, who are top of Austria’s Bundesliga.
M2: Excelsior Rotterdam vs Volendam TEAM A WINS DRAW TEAM B WINS
Excelsior are only three points above second-from-bottom Volendam in the Dutch premier league standings.

Bundesliga. Augsburg have hosted Union six times previously with four victories and two draws.
M4: Leganes vs Espanyol TEAM A WINS DRAW TEAM B WINS
Top-of-the-table clash in the Spanish second division, in which Leganes are four points ahead of Espanyol.
M5: Lazio vs Salernitana TEAM A WINS DRAW TEAM B WINS
Lazio lost at home the last time they hosted Salernitana in October 2022. Salernitana are 10 points adrift at the bottom of Serie A and headed for Serie B next season.
M6: St Truiden vs Standard Liege TEAM A WINS DRAW TEAM B WINS
No doubt who history favours here. Standard have won just one of the last 12 clashes between these two, whereas St Truiden have come out tops in seven of those games.
M7: Waterford vs Galway United TEAM A WINS DRAW TEAM B WINS
Clash of the two newly promoted teams in the Irish premier league. Galway are unbeaten in their last five meetings with Waterford.

Betis are on a four-match losing streak, while Vigo are only three points above the LaLiga relegation zone.

Saturday 13 April S10 V3

SOCCER 10 V3 SUGGESTED BET:

M1: Newcastle United vs Tottenham Hotspur TEAM A WINS DRAW TEAM B WINS
With R100,000 from TAB to get the ball rolling, you can bank on a good pool but remember bets must be in by 13:30. Newcastle thrashed Tottenham 6-1 the last time they hosted them a year ago, but Spurs then won 4-1 at home over the Geordies in December.
M2: Atletico Madrid vs Girona TEAM A WINS DRAW TEAM B WINS
Atletico have lost only once in nine past meetings with Girona, who are currently third in Spain’s LaLiga standings and seven points ahead of Diego Simeone’s team.
M3: Stellenbosch FC vs SuperSport United TEAM A WINS DRAW TEAM B WINS
Stellenbosch’s only previous Nedbank Cup quarter-final resulted in a famous 2-1 win over Sundowns last season. SuperSport beat Stellenbosch away this season in a league clash.
M4: Brentford vs Sheffield United TEAM A WINS DRAW TEAM B WINS
Brentford’s run of nine games without success has put them in relegation peril and they are only four points above the drop zone. The Blades are bottom and almost sure to go down.
M5: Burnley vs Brighton & Hove Albion TEAM A WINS DRAW TEAM B WINS
Burnley have lost only one of their last five outings, but are still second from bottom in the English Premier League. Brighton are unbeaten on their last three visits to Turf Moor.
M6: Manchester City vs Luton Town TEAM A WINS DRAW TEAM B WINS
City have won twice away at Luton this season - a narrow 2-1 success in the league followed by a 6-2 FA Cup victory. So it should be comfortable for them at home.
M7: Nottingham Forest vs Wolverhampton Wanderers TEAM A WINS DRAW TEAM B WINS
The last three tussles between these two English clubs have all ended in 1-1 draws. Be close again.
M8: Rayo Vallecano vs Getafe TEAM A WINS DRAW TEAM B WINS
Rayo have won one of their last 12 matches and are near the LaLiga relegation zone. Getafe have won one of their previous six.
M9: AmaZulu vs Orlando Pirates TEAM A WINS DRAW TEAM B WINS
Pirates are the defending champions in the Nedbank Cup, having beaten Sekhukhune United in the final last season. Rivals Usuthu have been to six finals, the last in 2010, but are yet to lift a trophy.
M10: Bournemouth vs Manchester United TEAM A WINS DRAW TEAM B WINS
This is United’s seventh trip to Bournemouth and they have four wins and two draws from the previous six.

Suggested R144 perm: 2,3 x 1,2,3 x 1,2,3 x 1 x 3 x 1 x 1,2 x 1 x 3 x 2,3.
