Read moreTomorrow’s guaranteed R22-million Soccer 13 pool for all-13-correct entries headlines an array of chances to cash in on your soccer knowledge with TAB this weekend. There are also cash-added Soccer 6 and 10 bets and a carryover Any 13 Xtra, but the bumper Soccer 13 and the possibility of winning a small fortune will be top of most football fans’ shopping list.
The Soccer 13 comprises six English Premier League clashes and seven games from the Championship. For those who use fixed odds as a guide, the EPL games are all pretty straightforward with Bournemouth (14-25), Fulham (5-4), Aston Villa (4-9), West Ham (6-4), Manchester City (20-21) and Crystal Palace (10-11) all firm favourites to win.
The odds look a fair assessment, barring Fulham and Manchester City at home to Notts Forest and Newcastle respectively. Fulham have managed only four victories from 12 home games this season, whereas Forest have improved dramatically under coach Nuno Espirito Santo and are riding high in third place in the table.
Manchester City continue to make defensive blunders in the final stages of games, the latest midweek when goalkeeper Ederson was the chief culprit in Real Madrid coming from 2-1 behind a few minutes before the final whistle to snatch a 3-2 victory. Both Ederson and his stand-in Stefan Ortega have gone backwards this season and several big-name teammates have made abominable defensive errors late in games, resulting in City drawing or losing matches they should have won.
City have the firepower to put Newcastle to the sword and it’s worth noting that the Magpies have not beaten them in a league game since 2019. But the key to the outcome will be whether City can avoid making schoolboy errors.
The Championship games are competitive but Blackburn and Middlesbrough should be up to winning at home.
The must-watch match of the weekend comes on Sunday, when two of the most famous names in English football cross swords in London. Spurs and Manchester United are both teams with rich histories, but right now both are much closer to the relegation zone than the top of the table. Ange Postecoglu’s Spurs have lost 13 of the 24 EPL matches they have played this season and United’s home defeat to Crystal Palace in their last league game was their 11th loss in the league this season.
With both teams floundering, get set for an entertaining contest and home advantage, plus several players returning from injury, may see Spurs come out tops.
