TAB WEEKEND SOCCER HIGHLIGHTS: 4 - 6 April
R35-MILLION SOCCER 13 POOL THAT CAN PAY ROCKETS!
Read moreSaturday’s Soccer 13 with a guaranteed R35-million pot for all-13-correct tickets will top the shopping lists of many TAB soccer customers, but the weekend’s best bet from a match-content perspective has to be Saturday’s second Soccer 10, which gets a R200,000 cash injection from TAB that will ensure a bumper pool.
The bet comprises an exciting mix of four Betway Premiership and four English matches, as well as a game from each of Serie A and LaLiga. The local matches include Soweto arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, who are fresh from an excellent away victory in CAF Champions League and now resume trying to overhaul Mamelodi Sundowns in the PSL title race.
Jose Riveiro’s Buccaneers travel to face Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium tomorrow, their first PSL game since a 2-1 home win over Sundowns on 16 March reignited their title hopes. They still trail Sundowns by 15 points in the table, but they have four games in hand - and if they win all of them the gap will reduce to just three points.
Tall order and unlikely, most definitely, but suffice to say they have more hope of reeling in Sundowns than Arsenal have of catching Liverpool in the English Premier League.
Pirates will be buoyed by both the win over Sundowns and then returning from Algiers this week with a 1-0 lead over MC Alger from the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final. They defended superbly against Alger and picked up the victory via Mohau Nkota’s well-taken strike. With the second leg at Orlando Stadium on 9 April, Riveiro faces a tricky task in juggling his squad as they chase both continental and domestic glory and he has injury worries to contend with.
That said Pirates beat Polokwane City 3-0 in the reverse fixture earlier this season and their class should tell against a team that has scored only 18 goals, and conceded as many, in 23 league matches this season.
Make Pirates a banker to win away in your Soccer 10 bets and you can also count on a home win for Golden Arrows against Chippa.
The big Soccer 13 is tough - four competitive EPL contests, eight Championship matches and a clash between newly-promoted Osters against Hacken in the Allsvenskan, Sweden’s premier league. Best advice here is to go for a win by Hacken, who beat their rivals 3-0 in a cup game in February.
The English Premiership games are anybody’s guess. Brighton and Bournemouth are away to difficult opponents, but both will be intent on getting back on the winning trail and playing at home may just give Ipswich an advantage over Wolves in a likely volatile and must-win clash for both.
Taking Aston Villa to win at home against Notts Forest could be a worthwhile gamble. Both are riding the crest of a wave, but Villa were sharp away at Brighton midweek, whereas Forest looked tired and missing Chris Wood in their 1-0 victory over Manchester United.
As always the Championship games are a minefield, but the banker bets look to be away wins for Norwich and log-leaders Sheffield United, and a home win for Milwall.
