TAB WEEKEND SOCCER HIGHLIGHTS: 28 - 30 March

March 2025

CLUB SOCCER IS BACK WITH BIG CASH BOOSTS FROM TAB

Club soccer is back on the menu this weekend after the international window and the 2024-25 football season is now in the home straight. Six Betway Premiership games headline the local action along with Nedbank and FA Cup clashes here and in England. TAB is adding over R800,000 in carryovers and cash boosts to six pools, including R250,000 bonus injections to Soccer 10 bets on Friday and Saturday, plus there’s a guaranteed R17-million pot if there’s only one outright winner of Saturday’s Soccer 13.

DEPTH OF TALENT IN SUNDOWNS SQUAD TO PROVE DECISIVE

The cup action kicks off with the Nedbank Cup clash between Sundowns and Sekhukhune United at Atteridgeville on Friday night. With African Champions League action ahead, Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso may opt not to select several key players just back from international duty.

That could open the door for Sekhukhune to upset the PSL champions, but Sundowns have so much depth to their squad that most TAB customers will banker them to win in M3 in the R250,000-added Soccer 10 pool.

There are three PSL clashes on both Saturday and Sunday, when the focus will be on the battle for third place in the league, which delivers a berth in next season’s African Confederation Cup.

Stellenbosch hold third spot after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Sekhukhune in their last outing and go back to Polokwane on Saturday for a meeting with Magesi. Steve Barker’s coastal side must be fancied to win again although they can expect a tough assignment.

TS Galaxy’s home game with Marumo Gallants on Sunday should see them keep up their challenge to Stellenbosch for third spot. Galaxy have won four of their last five home games.

At the other end of the table, Cape Town City and SuperSport United begin life with new coaches on Sunday after Muhsin Ertugral quit at the coastal club and fellow veteran Gavin Hunt was fired by SuperSport. The two clash in Polokwane and home advantage could see SuperSport come out tops under caretaker coach Andre Arendse, who has past experience in the role.

In England, the FA Cup quarter-final ties should all be closely contested, especially on Saturday when Crystal Palace have a London derby at Craven Cottage against Fulham and Nottingham Forest, flying high in the English Premier League, are away at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Both matches plus the Stellenbosch-Magesi clash are included in Saturday’s R250,000-boosted Soccer 10.

The Forest-Brighton match is a must-watch. Forest, currently third in the English Premier League table, are enjoying their best season in some 50 years and only have to hold form for 10 more games to qualify for Champions League next season.

They thumped Brighton 7-0 back in February, but don’t be too keen to use that as guide to this cup clash. The Seagulls have got their wings back in the wake of that humiliation, winning their next six in a row and then drawing with Manchester City last time.

The other FA Cup quarters are on Sunday, when Aston Villa’s poor away record means they are no certainties on their visit to Championship club Preston North End. Manchester City go to Bournemouth where they lost 2-1 last November. They should win this time, but don’t put your house on it - Pep Guardiola’s team remains fragile with both frontline goalkeepers no longer looking up to playing at the top level.
