Vodcom Durban July weights

November 2021

There are now 31 entries remaining in contention for a berth in the R2-million Grade 1 Vodacom Durban July after the final supplementary and weight stage was reached on Tuesday.

Rainbow Bridge, winner of the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge over 1600m at Greyville on Saturday, will carry top weight of 60kg while last year’s winner, Belgarion, has been allocated 58kg.

That means the Justin Snaith-trained runner will carry 5kg more than last year  and will have to give 3kg to last year’s runner-up, Got The Greenlight, who finished 0.85 lengths behind him. In last year’s race they met at level weights.

Three-year-old colts Linebacker, Kommetdieding and Rascallion will race with 53kg on their backs while champion three-year-old filly, War Of Athena, has been allotted 52kg.

Final declarations for the 2200m spectacular to be run at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday, 3 July close at 11h00 on Monday 21 June.

The announcement of the final field of 18 plus 2 reserve runners, and their barrier draws, will take place on Tuesday, 22 June.
