Van Zyl runner has the velocity

July 2024

Jack Milner

Few pundits who watched Lucrative win on debut would not have been blown away by the manner of that success.

It was her first race, she was at the back of the field and looked to be going nowhere when she suddenly took off, mowed down the opposition and went on to win by 1.50 lengths.

While this daughter of Vercingetorix looks useful, the fillies who finished close behind her are worth following too.

One of those was Terminal Velocity, who finished in fourth place, but just 2.35 lengths behind the winner. This Gareth van Zyl-trained runner also made her debut that day and was friendless in the betting, drifting from an opening call of 7-1 to 12-1.

The two-year-old daughter of Global View and half-sister to Sean Tarry-trained seven-time winner Full Velocity was drawn No 15 over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville and produced the second fastest finish.

That was an impressive effort, and a repeat of that performance should make her hard to beat in Race 2, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1400m on the Polytrack at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday.

Serino Moodley, who rode her on debut, is back in the irons again.
