Trainer Gareth van Zyl and jockey S’manga Khumalo had a Youth Day to remember at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Monday.
The young trainer came away with a remarkable six winners on the eight-race card, four of which were ridden by Khumalo.
The good run began in Race 1 where first-timer Wild Justice (4-1), ridden by Nicholas Patel, got up to beat 17-20 favourite Holy Star by 0.70 lengths.
That opened the floodgates and Van Zyl runners went on to win the next three races, Serengetti Sun (17-20), Are You Sure (18-10) and Prankster (6-1), all ridden by Khumalo.
Van Zyl closed out the meeting with aplomb, winning Race 7 with Luhamba Phambili (5-2), also ridden by Khumalo, and Rafa’s Boy (backed in from 7-1 to 4-1) with Sean Veale up.
Khumalo’s other victory came up in Race 6 where he brought home 14-1 shot Giambattista for trainer Wendy Whitehead.
