Van Zyl duo to fight out King’s Cup

The Listed King’s Cup (Race 7) over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday could be dominated by runners from the Gareth van Zyl yard.

He has two runners in King Pelles and Imposing and while the former is the bookmakers’ preferred option, it could be Imposing who could have the edge.

King Pelles won last time out over 1950m but is unlikely to be suited by the drop in trip. The same could be true of Justin Snaith-trained Okavango and so far the champion trainer’s runners have seemed to need their first outing in KwaZulu-Natal.

Imposing, however, is in top form and is ideally distance suited. Nicholas Patel takes the ride.

Richard Fourie could be on the mark with Mister Nibbles for trainer Paul Lafferty in Race 6, a Class 4 Handicap over 1600m.

The gelded son of Horizon has the best form in the race.

He also takes a slight drop-in class but importantly he has proven stamina having won over the distance while principal danger, Tyrconnell, who finished 0.40 lengths behind him last time, has won all his races over 1400m and has had many attempts over further.
