Value for bettors on Kenilworth card

Punters are faced with a tricky nine-race card at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday but that usually means there is some good value on offer at the meeting.

One of those could be Western World in Race 5, a lightly raced three-year-old who recently won his maiden.

Trainer Vaughan Marshall has had a great run with the progeny of his former charge, One World, who is producing one winner after another, many of them at a very high level.

Without question, the best of bunch has to be One Step, who was an impressive winner of last weekend’s Grade 1 L’Ormarins King’s Plate over 1600m.

While Western World is not in the same league as his illustrious stablemate he could be good enough to record a second win from five starts when he lines up in this Class 4 Handicap over 1600m.

Although they were not poor runs, Western World did not show too much in his first three starts – over 1200m and 1400m – but that all changed in his fourth start when Marshally made two changes. The first was the addition of blinkers and the second a move up to 1800m. Although going off at 16-1 he moved past his opposition to beat Dubbelosix by 1.75 lengths.

The form was franked when third-placed Ardabil came out win his next start and followed that up with a 0.50-length second behind Golden Pavilion at Fairview.

A few days after that win Western World was gelded which could bring about further improvement.

Oswald Noach takes the ride, and at the time of writing Western World was on offer at around 20-1 and could provide punters with each-way value and could also bolster the Quartet payout.

Greg Ennion-trained What A Winter colt Arctic Wizard steps up in class bidding to complete a hat-trick of course-and-distance wins in Race 8 over 1200m. Gran van Niekerk steered the progressive three-year-old to victory in his last start under 60kg, giving weight and a beating to unexposed Cork Bay in a competitive 17-horse field.

Arctic Wizard faces his acid test under a seven-point penalty but, with just 56kg on his back and Van Niekerk in the irons, it could pay to follow the progress of Ennion's charge.
